On May 10th, 2025, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission (AAPIC) will be holding their 17th Annual Unity Dinner at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Westborough.

Lifetime Achievement Award

HELEN CHIN SCHLICHTE

Helen Chin Schlichte was one of the first Asian women to achieve prominence as a Public
Administrator. She also brought her expertise, experience and commitment to the Chinese and
larger communities serving as Co-founder, President Emerita of South Cove Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; Director Emerita of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; Co Founder, Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation among many others.
Helen says her inspiration for a life of service came from her parents. “My father set a great
example of service to the community; my mother raised nine children through enormous
hardship. We give our time and our resources not only to improve the lives of those around us
but also to enrich our own lives.  We are blessed to have the opportunity to share.”

Leadership for Diversity & Inclusion Award

TRINH ROBLINSKI

Trinh Roblinski has been the Executive Director of the Springfield Vietnamese Cultural Association (SVCA) for over six years. She has played a vital role in fostering a spirit of collaboration within the Vietnamese community. Her initiatives aim to strengthen ties among various Vietnamese organizations and address the shared needs of AAPIC and Vietnamese Americans in Greater Springfield. Additionally, her work promotes unity and solidarity among Vietnamese Americans and AAPIC residents throughout Massachusetts. Under Trinh’s leadership, the SVCA has evolved into the hub of the Vietnamese community in Greater Springfield, offering crucial resources and services that allow increased access to housing, education, healthcare and immigration for both youth and seniors. These services benefit not only the Vietnamese community, but also reach Cambodian, Laotian, Nepali, Filipinos Chinese, and other AAPI members. Trinh actively partners with state and local authorities, community leaders and businesses, and to ensure efficiency and success. Her contributions have significantly bolstered community resilience, inclusivity, and cultural pride. Trinh Roblinski’s unwavering dedication and impactful efforts continue to cultivate a thriving, inclusive, and united AAPIC community in Massachusetts.

HUA WANG

Dr. Hua Wang’s professional experience has spanned academia, government, and
industry. He is currently the Associate Head of Division of Systems Engineering at
Boston University. He was a research scientist with United Technologies Research
Center, a faculty member with Duke University, and a program manager with U.S. Army
Research Office. He is a highly cited author with over 300 technical publications and
books. He has served on various committees and editorial boards of professional
societies and is a recipient of a number of prestigious professional awards.

Dr. Wang is a well-respected and recognized community activist and leader involved
with local, regional, and national organizations. He is the Co-President of the Chinese
American Association of Lexington (CAAL) and have served on the boards of Lexington Historical Society, Cary Memorial Library Foundation and Community Endowment of Lexington. He is the Chair of the National Board of Directors of United Chinese Americans (UCA), a prominent nonprofit national organization headquartered in Washington DC. He is also the founding Co-Chair and current Co-President of New England Chinese American Alliance (NECAA), and the President of Coalition for Anti- Racism and Equity (CARE) Action, Inc. He is recognized as one of the Boston’s 50 Most Influential Asian American Pacific Islanders, a 20 for 20 Honorees of the Commonwealth Seminar’s 20th Anniversary and the President’s Volunteer Service Award Lifetime Achievement Award.

Unsung Hero Award

OLIVIA MELAYA STROHMAN

Born and raised in the Philippines, Olivia Melaya Strohman has dedicated her life to service, both in her professional career and her community work. She is married to Stephen Strohman and is a proud mother to her beloved son, Oliver. For over two decades, Olivia has been an integral part of the Hampden County Probate and Family Court, where she has worked her way up from Case Specialist to Case Coordinator and now serves as Operations Supervisor. Beyond her professional role, Olivia is a passionate advocate for the AAPI community. She leads charitable efforts as the head of the Committee for the Mount Carmel Philippine Stigmatine Mission, raising funds to support the parishes of Lawigan and Barcelona in Davao, Philippines. Her commitment to community service extends further as the President of the Bayanihan Association of America, Inc., an organization founded in 2011 to assist Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Under her leadership, Bayanihan has fostered a diverse and inclusive network, serving not just Filipinos but also members of Vietnamese, Chinese, Hispanic, African American, and other Asian communities.

JIANMIN JASMINE LI

Jianmin (Jasmine) Li moved to Western Massachusetts in 2001 and has dedicated the past 13 years to community service. Passionate about fostering unity, she strives to preserve and promote Asian culture while enhancing the AAPI community’s positive image. Her efforts have inspired many to engage in public service and cultural advocacy.

ANNY CHAN

Anny Chan is a passionate and dedicated educator, international ambassador, entrepreneur, and nonprofit leader. In addition to her role as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University, she is the Founder of ATwin Education, President of the International and Intercultural Education Institute, and Vice President of Massachusetts Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Boston Chapter. As the 2024 Chair of the Harvard China Education Symposium, Anny led an international team of 150+ committee members and volunteers, delivering one of the most renowned education conferences bridging the East and the West. She also initiated the International STEAM Network and the Cross-Cultural Education Association at Harvard. Beyond her academic and leadership roles, Anny is deeply committed to community service. She has volunteered as a social entrepreneurship educator in East Boston, Somerville, and Framingham schools.

YVONNE HAO

Yvonne Hao is the former Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development. She has had more than 25 years of executive business experience as a senior executive, including as Co-founder, Advisor, and Managing Director at investment firm Cove Hill Partners and as an Operating Partner at Pillar Ventures. Previously, she was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of PillPack, an online pharmacy that was acquired by Amazon in 2018. She is also a former Operating Partner at Bain Capital. In addition, Hao has been a Board Director of companies such as CarGurus, Flywire, Gentherm, ZipRecruiter, and Bose. She also has been involved in the community, is the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Beth Israel Lahey Health, and a Trustee Emeriti of her alma mater, Williams College. She lives in Williamstown and Cambridge and is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Cambridge.

Iskwelahang Pilipino 

Iskwelahang Pilipino (IP) is a non-profit Filipino cultural school founded by a group of parents and educators in 1976. Traditional Filipino dance has been an integral aspect of Iskwelahang Pilipino since the school’s founding and the Iskwelahang Pilipino Dance Team formed in 2021 to supplement regular IP dance classes for students who want to learn more folk dancing. New England Bhangra Club

The New England Bhangra Club is the only all- female identifying , competitive Bhangra team that represents the greater Boston area. They have competed and placed at some of the most prestigious competitions in the country and enjoy working together to promote Bhangra and to uphold the Punjabi tradition. As one of the only all- female identifying Bhangra teams in the competitive dance circuit, with Bhangra being a primarily male-dominated dance form, NEBC works hard to shatter stereotypes about women in Bhangra and to raise the standards for form, energy, and style. 

Dr. Therese Lautua – Samoan Taualuga

Dr. Therese Lautua is a māmā, wife, and proudly from South Auckland, Aotearoa with Samoan, Irish and Swiss ties. As an early-career theologian, she has particular interest in the ways which spirituality, culture, and Christian faith intersect with the wellbeing of Pacific peoples. The Taualuga is a central part of Samoan culture, representing the completion of important tasks and the culmination of ceremonies. It’s often performed as the grand finale of a gathering or celebration, marking the formal end. The dance is characterized by graceful and elegant movements, often with a strong emphasis on the stasis of the center in relation to the periphery, symbolizing the balance of time, society, and nature. 

Boston Korean Dance Academy

The Boston Korean Dance Academy has been teaching and performing traditional Korean dance in New England for over 20 years. They are proud to represent Korea’s cultural heritage with traditional folk and contemporary dances. Their choreographer and teacher is Jessica Park. They are always welcoming new students, both adults and children. They practice every Saturday afternoon in Maynard, MA.
