Cape Cod, Massachusetts

In August 2025, AAPI residents, community organizations, and local partners gathered in Eastham, MA for the Massachusetts Asian American & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Commission’s first-ever Cape Cod Listening Session. This session marked an important step in expanding the Commission’s reach to regions where AAPI communities have historically been underrepresented.

Community members shared powerful stories about the unique challenges of living on the Cape, including experiences of cultural isolation, lack of representation, and barriers to accessing essential services. In response, the Commission is working to ensure these voices are not only heard, but centered in future outreach, programming, and policy advocacy.

Following the success of this initial gathering, the Commission is exploring ways to establish recurring community sessions on the Cape to foster ongoing dialogue and deepen partnerships with local organizations, town officials, and community leaders.

As in other regions of the Commonwealth, Commissioners, staff, and interns will continue attending local events and supporting grassroots AAPI efforts—both to raise awareness about the Commission’s work and to stand in solidarity with those uplifting AAPI voices across Cape Cod.

Though AAPI communities across the Cape have grown steadily, they remain underrecognized in policy conversations. These listening sessions are a vital first step in building a stronger, more connected presence for AAPI residents in the region.
