Session 3: 1-Day Session w/ Commonwealth Seminar | The Budget Process & Applying the Foundations of Advocacy

Join the Asian American Commission and the Commonwealth Seminar (@macommseminar) for a 1-Day *FREE* Session on Saturday, July 17th @ 10:00AM – 12:30PM!
It will be an intensive training session with two workshops focusing on the budget process and applying the foundations of advocacy (using AAC as a case study). By giving an insiders’ view of the process, our goal is to encourage diverse leaders to become effective advocates and to pursue careers in public service.

The session will be opened by AAC Commissioner, Nate Bae Kupel and Outreach Coordinator of the Commonwealth Seminar, Victoria Wu. The session will end with a networking activity that is optional for attendees.

Lecture 1: The Budget Process

First, we’ll be joined by Monique Ching – a Policy Analyst at the Massachusetts Budget & Policy Center and a Seminar alum!  Monique will discuss the State budget process and the thought process which goes into some of its funding decisions.

Lecture 2: Applying the Foundations of Advocacy

Leverett will use this final segment of our Seminar class to synthesize the various lessons we’ve learned during our three sessions.  Using our own Asian American Commission as an example, we’ll see how the legislative process, budget considerations, lobbying and working with the press media all played vital roles in the creation of the Commission.
